Welcome to the Challenge of Diabetes web site. During the early years of having a child with diabetes, it is important to have good information. Here we offer you articles, resources, archived newsletters and our book "The Challenge of Childhood Diabetes: Family Strategies for Raising a Healthy Child."
Our message is one of hope and encouragement, and you will find many strategies for improving nutrition, increasing exercise, getting a solid night's sleep, and helping one another with the stress of living with chronic illness. We offer talks on a variety of topics and a calendar for upcoming events.
The chapters of The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles now give a copy of the book "The Challenge of Childhood Diabetes" to families of newly diagnosed children.
The Children’s Hospital Boston offers the book as a resource for families. Copies of the book are also given to the family of every child diagnosed with diabetes at Mass General Hospital in Boston.
“Your book touches all the emotions of learning about diabetes, living with diabetes, coming to grips with what is important and less important and showing the interactions between family members... Some of the things that you have written about are the same philosophical issues that I have experienced and try to put into practice with our own patients for many years - and also use in my lectures around the world. We'll certainly want to recommend your book to the families of our patients. The rest of my staff is reading it now.”
